Gerald Fierst helped bring the concept of civil celebrants to America. With a home base in Montclair, New Jersey, Gerry performs wedding ceremonies throughout the New York region. He is a registered marriage officiant in New York City and has created ceremonies in settings as diverse as NYC‘s landmark Central Park, magnificent Grand Central Station, elegant Four Seasons Hotel, and intimate Hotel Giraffe. He has officiated at marriage ceremonies on NJ‘s shore beaches and in elegant Highland mansions.
An internationally acclaimed writer, teacher, lecturer, and performer, Gerry believes that celebrants are essentially storytellers who use the power of words to create rituals that touch us, delight us, and connect us to each other and to the world. Story is shared breath—breathing together. When we gather at a wedding, we laugh, cry, and celebrate our lives together. The words which you say at your wedding are only breath, but they will be the most beautiful words in the world, for they are truly felt with all your heart and shared with all whom you hold most dear.
When Gerry writes your wedding ceremony, he will create an experience based in tradition but reflecting your stories, your shared lives, and the depth of feeling which brings two people together, emotionally as well as legally. Whether your story is traditional or off beat, it is unique. Gerry will listen and help you to shape and share this moment, and he will share this story in a ceremony that will be recalled and retold for the rest of your lives.
